The Reality of Menopause for Every Woman
Eventually, all of us girls go through menopause. Most of us are perimenopausal for five to ten years, leading into menopause, which can be mild, moderate, or severe. Unbeknownst to me, I was perimenopausal during my 30s and was in full-blown menopause by the age of 40.
The Physical and Emotional Impact
From then on, I noticed all the hormonal changes that accompany a marked loss of oestrogen, progesterone, and testosterone, causing night sweats, frequent visits to the loo, hot flushes, interrupted sleep, brain fog, fatigue, irritability, low libido, and feeling exhausted and rather cranky as a result. Not fair!
How Menopause Affects Your Skin
They say that you ‘dry up’ in menopause, and I’m not just talking about ‘down below’! The reason is that from our mid-30s, we ladies lose around 1% of our skin collagen annually until we hit menopause. By then, of course, we’ve lost about 30% of our collagen stores, and collagen is the elasticity, flexibility, and scaffolding that holds the skin together.
Early Signs of Hormonal Skin Changes
So, even though the average onset of menopause is in our early 50s, I started noticing my skin ageing much earlier than most, becoming drier, looking dull and sallow, with fine lines appearing on my face. As my skin and body began to age prematurely, I stacked on the upper body fat, and I realised it was time to visit the women’s health GP for hormone replacement therapy, otherwise known as HRT.
Finding Relief Through HRT
For me, HRT relieved the debilitating symptoms of menopause. It made me feel normal, gave me back my energy, stopped my road rage, and supported my bone density and heart health in the process.
The Gap in Skincare Solutions
In the 90s, anti-ageing solutions came along, and I was a clinical trainer and nurse clinician working in cosmetic medicine. But annoyingly, there was no skincare on the market for my oestrogen-deficient, ageing skin; everything was aimed at a younger market or those with other specific problems, such as pigmentation, rosacea, or acne, and that was 25 years ago – until now!
Revolutionary Skincare for Menopausal Women
I thank the goddess of menopausal skin for ‘Emepelle’ because now, ladies, we have this targeted skincare that helps improve those visible signs of ageing by harnessing the restorative benefits of patented MAP technology. Emepelle is clinically proven to safely and effectively address the root cause of oestrogen-deficient skin.

How Emepelle Works
It’s simple. It works to help improve and restore the natural radiance the skin loses over time. Emepelle’s day serum and night cream (my go-to) are loaded with proven anti-ageing ingredients such as peptides, antioxidants, emollients, and humectants – all to help hydrate the skin and maintain its moisture barrier. Gotta love those added benefits designed for us older girls!

Celebrating Our Strength and Wisdom
So, on this important day, when we acknowledge a rite of passage, I am reminded of the number of menopausal women who tell me they have become invisible in our society. But we are not invisible. We are vibrant, vital, and vivacious creatures with different kinds of power that reflect the experience and wisdom only time can give.
Leading by Example
Let that inner strength shine through, from the inside out, by looking after ourselves and each other. Let’s lead by example, celebrate International Menopause Day with glowing skin and inner confidence, and give something for the younger girls to revere, not fear, and show society what we’re made of – older girls and proud of it!
Love The Skin You’re In!
