TCA Peel
Resurface & Rejuvenate your skin with a TCA Peel
The function of a TCA Peel (Trichloroacetic Acid Peel) is to create a controlled shedding of several layers of damaged skin cells. This exfoliation process exposes a new, fresh layer of skin with a more even colour and a smoother texture.
A chemical solution is applied to your skin, which causes the top layers of skin cells to dehydrate and peel off over a period of several days.
The depth and percentage of the peel can be customised to match your requirements with the amount of downtime you are prepared to tolerate. The deeper and stronger the peel, the more visible the change.
What is a TCA peel used for?
Because we can adjust its strength, a TCA peel works on a wide range of concerns, including:
To remove superficial layers of skin
Dry out active acne and improve some acne scars
Help lighten hyperpigmentation, melasma and generally even out the skin tone
Reduce shallow or superfine wrinkling on the face
Improve the overall appearance and health of sun-damaged, ageing skin
These diverse applications make the TCA Peel particularly effective for individuals with multiple skin concerns who want comprehensive improvement. The ability to customise the peel’s depth means we can match the treatment intensity to your skin’s needs and your available recovery time.
Treatment Approach
The TCA Peel creates controlled chemical exfoliation by applying trichloroacetic acid to remove damaged skin layers systematically. This process exposes fresh, healthy skin beneath, stimulating natural healing responses that improve texture and tone. The treatment’s strength can be precisely adjusted to match your concerns and tolerance for downtime, allowing for personalised results ranging from a subtle refresh to a more visible change.
Choosing the right TCA strength
TCA is one of the few peels we can fine-tune, so your peel can match both your skin and your calendar.
Depth decides downtime
Lighter TCA peels work on the surface layer. Expect a few days of tightness and flaking, then a fresher, brighter look once it finishes.
Stronger TCA peels reach deeper, which helps with stubborn pigmentation, sun damage and fine lines. They come with more downtime, and peeling can last up to two weeks.
At your assessment, we look at your skin type, your concerns and how much downtime you can manage. Then we set the strength and number of layers to suit.
TCA peels and skin needling compared
Both treatments renew the skin, but they work from different directions.
Two routes to smoother skin
A TCA peel works from the surface down. It’s the stronger choice for pigmentation, sun damage and fine surface lines, because it removes the damaged layers directly.
Dermapen Skin Needling works from the inside out, building new collagen beneath the surface. It’s usually the better pick for acne scarring and texture.
The two often work well together across a course. We may alternate them, or add a light peel to a needling session, depending on what your skin needs.
Looking after your skin after a TCA peel
The skin that comes through after a TCA peel is fresh and fragile, so aftercare matters.
Protect the new skin
Cleanse gently with lukewarm water and use only the moisturiser we recommend. Your skin may look darker before it peels, which is a normal part of the process.
Let the peeling skin come away on its own, even when it’s tempting to help it along. Pulling it early can leave marks or patches of pigment.
Wear SPF 50+ and a hat whenever you’re outdoors, and avoid heat, heavy exercise and active skincare until your skin has healed. If you notice blistering, oozing or anything that worries you, call us on (07) 5447 4227.

How long does the peeling process take?
Your can start peeling approximately 48-72 hours after treatment. This varies person to person. Generally, peeling can last anywhere from 2-14 days.
Peeling usually starts around the mouth and nose and continues upward.
What will I look like immediately after the TCA peel?
Your skin may look as if it has had a moderate sunburn and can appear darker than normal before peeling occurs. It may feel hot and tight like a sunburn.
This can last from 24-72 hours. Although uncommon, swelling can appear on the face and around eyes within 24 hours.
The TCA peel is an extremely powerful chemical peeling agent. It is important to understand that some people may have a stronger and longer peeling response, or experience other after effects like facial swelling or prolonged skin redness and irritation.
How you look after your skin once home is crucial to your skin’s healing and recovery. Please remember that the after effects of this peel are similar to having a moderate sunburn or burn. Therefore, it is important to care for your skin during the peeling phase as though you are caring for a burn or sunburn.
So, stay out of the sun, keep cool, continue applying the calming balms to your peeling skin and keep up the H2O hydration!
