What are Skin Sculpting Treatments?
Skin Sculpting Treatments work differently from traditional volumising procedures. These treatments use specialised formulations that stimulate the body’s own collagen production, gradually improving skin structure and texture. Over time, this process can help thicken soft tissues, enhance natural contours, and refine the appearance of the skin’s surface for a smoother, more refreshed look.
How do Skin Sculpting Treatments work?
These treatments work differently from traditional products. Instead of directly filling in wrinkles and folds, it stimulates your body’s own natural collagen production.
Here’s how it works:
- Application: This collagen-stimulating treatment is placed into the deep dermis—the layer of skin responsible for structure and support—or into the underlying soft tissue to help reinforce and restore foundational support.
- Collagen Stimulation: The poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA) used in Skin Sculpting Treatments acts as a bio-activator, encouraging your body to produce new collagen fibres over time.
- Gradual Improvement: The new collagen gradually builds up over time, restoring lost volume and improving skin texture and firmness.
This process takes time, and results typically become noticeable within a few weeks to months after your initial treatment. A series of treatments spaced several weeks apart is usually recommended for optimal results.
Because Skin Sculpting Treatments work by stimulating the body’s natural collagen production, the results develop gradually, look natural, and tend to last longer than traditional volumising or skin-enhancing treatments.
It’s essential to understand that this is not a quick-fix solution. Achieving the best outcome requires a commitment to a treatment plan and some patience, as results appear progressively over time. However, the long-lasting, subtle rejuvenation makes this treatment a valuable option for those seeking to restore a firmer, fresher, and more lifted appearance.
Since 1999, Skin Sculpting Treatments have been used by thousands of clients across more than 300 countries. In Australia, they are approved for both cosmetic and reconstructive use.
What areas can be treated with Skin Sculpting Treatments?
Restore lost or sunken facial volume to cheeks and mid-face
Defines and lifts the jawline angle and improves jowling
Chest wrinkles or sleep lines
Corrects contour deficiencies, giving the overall appearance of facial lifting
It improves skin creases, facial lines, and wrinkles and lifts facial folds
Skin Sculpting Treatments are ideal for treating broader areas of facial ageing without adding bulk. It supports your body’s rebuilding of lost collagen and improves overall skin integrity. Results are subtle and build naturally over time.
Our clinicians will assess the best treatment areas to create balanced and natural results that complement your facial features and rejuvenate your appearance.
Treatment Approach
A Skin Sculpting Treatment stimulates your skin’s collagen response, gradually restoring lost volume and improving firmness across the face. The approach focuses on enhancing facial contours and skin quality over time for natural, long-lasting results, never an overfilled look.
Skin Sculpting Treatments Before and After Photos
In accordance with the Australian Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) advertising code and the requirements set out by our regulatory body, AHPRA, we are unable to display before-and-after images of prescription-based cosmetic treatments on our website or social media platforms.
We completely understand how valuable these images can be when exploring treatment options and setting realistic expectations. That’s why we’re happy to share relevant examples during an in-clinic consultation.
At your consultation, one of our experienced Registered Nurses will walk you through the treatment process, explain what to expect, show you real client case studies, and tailor a personalised plan to your unique goals, preferences, and features.
Pricing for Skin Sculpting Treatments
Due to TGA advertising regulations and AHPRA guidelines, we are unable to advertise the product’s brand name or provide unit-based or per-syringe pricing publicly. This is because wrinkle-reducing treatments involve prescribed medications, which must be discussed in a clinical context and with appropriate medical oversight.
To ensure you receive the safest and most suitable outcome, we offer in-person consultations and assessments with our experienced Registered Nurses.
During your visit, we’ll take the time to understand your goals, assess your facial structure and create a tailored treatment plan. From there, we’ll provide a clear quotation aligned with your unique needs, budget, and preferences, always with your safety and natural result in mind.
How did Skin Sculpting Treatments come about?
First developed for medical use over 25 years ago, Skin Sculpting Treatments have evolved into a leading cosmetic option for natural-looking facial volume restoration and long-term skin rejuvenation.
Trusted innovation with decades of success
Skin Sculpting Treatments have been around for over 25 years. Its initial use in general medicine revolutionised the management of patients with fat and collagen loss and facial volume-depleting medical conditions as an alternative to fat transplant.
By the early 2000s, Skin Sculpting Treatments had become established in aesthetic medicine worldwide as a cosmetic treatment.
Our senior Registered Nurse, Vicki Hull, was one of the first Australian clinicians who also worked in the field as a Clinical Trainer to implement these treatments into her clinical practice.
Are Skin Sculpting Treatments better than treatments that fill, lift & improve skin texture?
While traditional fillers provide immediate lift, Skin Sculpting Treatments offer a gradual transformation by activating your skin's collagen regeneration. It's a smart choice for longer-term, subtle rejuvenation.
Different goals, different benefits
Skin Sculpting Treatments and traditional volumising options can both help address signs of ageing, but they work in different ways and offer distinct benefits.
Deciding which treatment is ‘better’ or the right one can depend on several factors, such as your skin’s ageing, the severity of skin laxity, and other lifestyle influences that may impact poor treatment outcomes.
Your individual needs and desired results will be comprehensively assessed and discussed during your consultation with one of our well-versed, trained Registered Nurses.
Here’s a comparison to help you understand the key differences:
Traditional Filling Agents:
- Immediate results: Filling products provide instant volume and wrinkle correction.
- Targeted correction: Ideal for specific areas like nasolabial folds or lips.
- Shorter-lasting results typically last 6-12 months, depending on the type of filling or collagen-stimulating agent used.
Skin Sculpting Treatments:
- Gradual results: Stimulates collagen production for a more natural-looking and subtle improvement over time.
- Overall improvement: Enhances skin texture and addresses volume loss across a wider area.
- Longer-lasting results: Can last up to 2 years or more.
Skin Sculpting Treatments may be a better choice if you:
- Want natural-looking results: Skin Sculpting Treatments gradually stimulate collagen, creating a subtle, natural-looking improvement, avoiding the ‘overfilled’ appearance sometimes associated with filling products.
- Seek long-lasting results: Skin Sculpting Treatments results can last significantly longer than traditional skin-boosting filler agents, reducing the need for frequent touch-up treatments.
- Desire overall skin and contour restorative improvement: Skin Sculpting Treatments address volume loss and improve skin texture and firmness. Its dual capabilities make this treatment unique.
Ultimately, your best choice depends on your needs and goals. Consulting with a Registered Nurse at The Cosmetic Studio Noosa can help you determine whether a Skin Sculpting Treatment or a traditional volumising approach is best suited to your individual goals and skin concerns.

Are Skin Sculpting Treatments safe?
When considering any aesthetic treatment, it is important to be informed about potential risks and to consider two key factors: the safety of the treatment process and the qualifications, training, and experience of the person performing it. Taking time to research your options is strongly recommended.
All medical procedures carry possible side‑effects, which will be discussed with you during your consultation. Treatments designed to restore or enhance facial features use a smooth gel‑based material placed beneath the skin. As with any procedure of this nature, temporary effects such as swelling, bruising, lumpiness or mild discomfort can occur and generally resolve within a few days with simple aftercare. In rare cases, more significant side‑effects such as infection, allergic reaction, granuloma, or tissue injury have been reported, and in extremely rare circumstances, visual changes or vision loss have been documented.
At The Cosmetic Studio Noosa, our team is trained in emergency response and the management of all adverse events in line with recognised clinical safety guidelines. We follow strict protocols for safe treatment delivery and medical management should a complication arise. At your initial consultation, and at least every 12 months thereafter, you will have a consultation with one of our supervising medical practitioners, who will review your medical history, current medications, and any allergies or health conditions that may affect your suitability for treatment.
Our clinical team undergoes ongoing professional development and participates in regular in‑clinic safety and skills training. We also stay current with industry safety standards and emergency protocols through professional memberships and conference attendance. For your safety, we only use products and devices supplied via approved Australian therapeutic channels and with established safety profiles.
Are there any side effects from treatment?
Although we follow strict protocols and take every precaution to ensure your safety, any treatment involving application beneath the skin carries potential risks and side effects.
Common responses may include swelling, minor bleeding resulting in bruising, redness or itchiness, tenderness at the treatment site, and the development of small lumps or bumps. These effects are typically mild and resolve within a few days, although bruising and swelling can persist for up to 14 days in some individuals.
Less commonly reported adverse events may include localised infection, allergic response, excessive tissue response, fatigue, or, in rare instances, complications such as vascular occlusion or granuloma formation.
At The Cosmetic Studio Noosa our staff are regularly trained in emergency responses in the management of all adverse events in accordance to the ‘Guidelines on Emergency Responses to Adverse Events’. We abide by safe injecting practices and adhere to strict protocols for medical management to resolve these conditions in the rare event of them occurring.
At your first consultation and every 12 months, you will have a FaceTime consultation with one of our supervising medical prescribers, who will assess your medical history, current medications, and any allergies or illnesses that may affect your suitability for this treatment.
NB: Recent changes to dilutions, attendance to anatomical workshop with adverse event recognition training have markedly reduced the incidence of these severe but rare complications.
How long do Skin Sculpting Treatments last?
Skin Sculpting Treatments are known for its long-lasting results, typically lasting up to 2 years or more. This is significantly longer than most traditional products, which often need to be repeated every 6-18 months.
However, it’s important to note that individual results may vary depending on several factors, including:
• Age and skin condition: Younger skin with good collagen production may see longer-lasting results.
• Severity of volume loss: More severe volume loss may require additional treatments to achieve desired results.
• Individual metabolism: The rate at which your body processes the active ingredients in collagen-stimulating treatments, such as PLLA, can influence how long the results are maintained.• Lifestyle factors: Sun exposure, smoking, and poor nutrition can accelerate collagen breakdown and shorten the duration of results.
Following a healthy lifestyle and good skincare routine can help prolong the results of your Skin Sculpting Treatment. Additionally, touch-up treatments can be performed to maintain optimal results over time.
During your consultation at The Cosmetic Studio Noosa, we’ll discuss your individual needs and provide a personalised estimate of how long your collagen-stimulating treatment results may last.
What happens when Skin Sculpting Treatments wear off?
**When Skin Sculpting Treatments wear off, your skin will gradually return to its pre-treatment state. This means that the volume and lift achieved may diminish over time, and lines or folds may become more noticeable again.**
However, it’s important to understand that Skin Sculpting Treatments work by stimulating your body’s natural collagen production. Even after the active ingredients have been metabolised, the collagen your body has produced may continue to support improvements in skin texture and firmness for a period of time.
These treatments may also contribute to slowing visible signs of ageing by promoting long-term collagen regeneration. So while your skin may not retain the same level of lift as immediately post-treatment, it will often appear more refreshed than it would have without treatment.
Are Skin Sculpting Treatments painful?
Your pain tolerance or fear of needles are comprehensively covered in your consultation. We offer many types of pain relief, from potent prescribed anaesthetic numbing cream, ice packs and proven distraction techniques!
Best of all, Skin Sculpting Treatments contain a local anaesthetic component, which helps to numb the area during the procedure, whether applied using a fine needle or a blunt-tipped cannula.
What can I expect to happen at my treatment session?
• At your consultation, we take your health history and other relevant information discussed, including consent, risks and benefits, then provide you with written Before & Aftercare instructions.
• A comprehensive facial assessment is conducted, and your treatment plan is given.
• While Skin Sculpting Treatments are not classified as prescription medicines, the topical anaesthetic used for numbing is. For this reason, we arrange a 12-month prescription through a videoconference consultation with our authorised prescriber.
• All your makeup is removed. Then, an anaesthetic cream is applied to the areas to be treated and allowed to penetrate for approximately 30 minutes.
• The anaesthetic cream is removed, and the skin is cleansed with an antiseptic solution.
• This collagen-stimulating treatment is administered in small amounts to mapped-out areas using either a fine needle or a blunt-tipped cannula, with multiple application points used as needed.
• Cryo-ice therapy is used throughout for added comfort and can be applied to help reduce bruising and swelling.
• After the treatment session, the area will be massaged to distribute the product evenly.
• The treatment session usually takes 45 minutes to complete.
• Before leaving, we go over Aftercare and provide you with a home care information sheet
